Ibanda South MP Dr. John Paul Ninkusiima, has asked parents and religious leaders to welcome the sex education bill, once approved by parliament.

Last month parliament was considering a motion tabled by Sarah Opendi the Tororo district woman MP urging government to address challenges facing the girl-child and children in the digital era.

Speaking at the confirmation ceremony for Kihani Catholic parish in Kicence sub county Ninkusiima, noted that the sex education bill is now being discussed in committees and will be tabled before parliament for further discussion.

He added that the bill intends to engage religious leaders, and parents to play a big role in educating children on sex education a role that parents ignored.

Recently, the High Court in Kampala directed the Education ministry to quickly develop and implement the comprehensive sexuality education policy for school learners, ending a 10-year wait.

Justice Lydia Mugambe in her ruling, held that under the international laws, adolescents both girls and boys, should be provided with and not denied accurate and appropriate information on how to protect their health and development and practice healthy behavior.
