Rukungiri – In a remarkable display of political maturity and party unity,Hon Frank Arinaitwe who who was defeated in the mid July 2025 National Resistance Movement (NRM) party  primary elections by the minister of Security Rtd Maj Gen.Jim K Muhwezi has publicly pledged to support the declared winner.

This gesture comes as a breath of fresh air in a political climate often marred by acrimony and division following competitive elections.

The NRM primaries, held across various constituencies in mid July, were fiercely contested as aspirants vied for the party’s flag to represent them in the upcoming general elections.

In a Meeting which was chaired by  Alhajji Moses Kigongo at his office , the second national vice chairperson of NRM , Hon Arinaitwe expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received throughout the campaign period.

More importantly, he emphasized the need for unity within the party to ensure victory in the general elections.

“While the results were not in my favor, I respect the democratic process and the decision of the party members. I congratulate Hon .Jim K Muhwezi and pledge my full support to him as he prepares to represent our people,” Hon  Arinaitwe stated.

Hon Arinaitwe ‘s commitment to back the winner is seen by many as a positive step towards consolidating the NRM’s strength in Rukungiri district.

“When candidates come together after primaries, it sends a strong message of solidarity to voters. It shows that the party is focused on the bigger picture rather than individual ambitions,”.Hon Arinaitwe added.

He also urged his supporters to rally behind minister Muhwezi and the party’s agenda, highlighting the importance of collective effort in achieving the NRM’s vision for national development.

He called on all stakeholders to put aside personal differences and focus on delivering tangible results to the electorate.

“Our unity is our strength. Together, we can overcome challenges and ensure that the NRM continues to lead with integrity and purpose,” he added.

This development has been widely applauded by party officials and grassroots supporters alike.

Speaking during the meeting, Alhajji Moses Kigongo said the decision of Hon Arinaitwe  to back the winner exemplifies the spirit of democracy and teamwork that the NRM seeks to promote nationwide.

” His decision to back the winner  will help heal any divisions that may have arisen during the heated primary campaigns and set a precedent for future electoral contests within the party”.Mr Kigongo said.

In speech, the minister of Security Rtd Maj Gen Jim K Muhwezi who doubles as the Rujumbura county member of Parliament described Hon Arinaitwe ‘s decision as a sign of maturity.

” He has done something right and I do welcome him as the district NRM party chairperson for Rukungiri district. I will work with him and am sure  victory will be ours “. Minister Muhwezi added.

As the general elections approach, the NRM in Rukungiri appears poised to present a united front, bolstered by leaders who prioritize the party’s ideals and the welfare of their constituents over individual ambitions.
