The government says it plans to improve broadband connectivity and cut the cost on internet devices to make internet services more affordable.
Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the minister of ICT and national guidance, said Cabinet has proposed to cut the costs on internet devices and increase broadband access.
In the reforms, the government wants to double the access to broadband internet and reduce costs of internet devices such as smartphones and laptops.

Baryomunsi promised many improvements in the ICT sector, saying that the government will integrate broadband infrastructure in the planning and development of major infrastructures such as roads, railways, energy, and oil pipelines.
While building communication infrastructure, such as laying optic fibre access, all stakeholders, utility companies will agree to have a common path.
Cabinet has embraced the blending of technologies to provide broadband connectivity by deploying the most suitable solution based on the context and circumstances on the ground.
This intervention is geared towards the improvement of the level of broadband connectivity and affordability in the country and is expected to usher in licensing of the newer radio technologies such as the 5G data speeds and more access to fibre at homes.
