Busoga – Former Vice President for the republic of Uganda Dr Specioza Wandira Kazibwe has launched a malaria fighting campaign in Busoga sub- region.
The Malaria fighting campaign in Busoga sub- region is being implemented by Dr Specioza in Collaboration with the Busoga Health Forum (BHF).
Busoga health forum (BHF) is a Busoga based non- governmental organization that aims at combating the disease through mass screening, treatment, and extensive indoor residual spraying.

While launching the campaign, Dr Specioza said the campaign targets both the interior and exterior of homes, killing mosquitoes on contact and reducing the risk of malaria transmission.
Dr Specioza added that the initiative also focuses on sensitizing communities about malaria prevention and treatment, distributing free mosquito nets to vulnerable families, and training 250 village health brigade teams to monitor malaria cases and report outbreaks.
Dr Specioza is very much hopeful that the initiative is the right intervention that will wipe out Malaria cases in Busoga sub- region.
Speaking at the launch of this campaign, Iganga district health assistant officer Dr. Karim Muluya welcomed the campaign saying that the government has been spending a lot of money in fighting malaria.
” Thank you Dr Specioza for this project , we have been a lot of money in fighting malaria but with this project the money that we have spending on malaria treatment will this time be used for household development projects to boost incomes” Dr Muluya said.

Busoga accounts for 33% of outpatient department (OPD) visits, 22% of hospitalisations, and 11% of malaria-related deaths in Uganda, making it one of the worst-affected regions in the country.
