Fire guts Rubirizi hotel

RUBIRIZI – Fire has gutted Park View Hotel in Rubirizi district destroying properties worth millions to ash.

Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying that the fire started in Queen Elizabeth national park destroying 15 cottages main restaurant.

According to the eye witnesses, Kateshumbwa’s Park view hotel which is located opposite Kicwamba Cotton factory in Kicwamba Sub-county in Rubirizi district was fully gutted by a blaze that left alot of property worth millions of money destroyed.

Tentative reports allege that the fire that revaged tycoon’s hotel started at around 4pm in the nearby Queen Elizabeth National park in South western Uganda as Uganda Wildlife Authority UWA was burning bushes but situation came out of control and the fired spread to the neighborhood.

It is alleged that UWA always burn bushes in this south western Uganda based National park towards the beginning of rainy seasons.

According to the eye witnesses, the blaze burnt safari lodges to ashes, destroyed 15 cottages and a restaurant structure.

The hotel staff were spotted at the scene trying to secure some of their boss’s valuables but fire had revaged most of the corners of this multi-million investment.

By the time of filing this report, no security agencies had visited the scene and we were yet to get a comment from the ex URA boss.
