Kanungu- The chief Justice of Uganda Dr. Flavian Zeija has launched Mobile courts in Kanungu courts in Kanungu district.
Addressing the Kanungu district leaders and stakeholders during his maiden visit to the district at function that took place at Kanungu Chief Magistrate Court premises yesterday 16th.Thursday 2026, Cj Dr Zeija said ‘’ the launched mobile courts will play a great role in delivering timely Judgments and they will also help in strengthening justice service delivery and improving collaboration among justice actors .”’’.
The chief justice added that ‘’ the mobile courts will bring judicial services closer to people because cases will be handled in time within local communities. I therefore ask you to embrace them and take good use of them’’.

Dr Zeija used the same platform and unveiled the government’s programs of establishing grade one courts at constituency level.‘
‘’ As a government we are having plans of having Grade One Magistrate Court in every constituency across the country to work on the issue of timely case hearing and Judgments’’. Dr Zeija said.
Speaking at the event, the Kanungu district chairperson Eng. Sam Kajojo asked the chief Justice to consider sending a chief magistrate who will be residing within our district.
‘’ As Kanungu district we are blessed with a Chief Magistrate Court but we don’t have a Chief Magistrate and this forces residents with serious cases to travel many kilometers to Rukungiri Chief Magistrate Court to seek justice which is very expensive to our local people ’’. Eng. Kajojo said.
On the issue of the lack of a Chief Magistrate in Kanungu, the Chief Justice revealed that the deployment program was delayed by elections and therefore called for patience.
‘’ My office is aware that you don’t a judge at the level of Chief Magistrate. So from here I am going to work on your issue but it only needs some patience ’’. Cj Zeija said.
During the same engagement, the Kanungu district deputy resident commissioner Mr Gad Rugaju decried the increasing cases of private money lenders confiscating people’s property asking the chief Justice to kindly intervene.
‘’ My office is overwhelmed with numerous cases of private money lenders confiscating people’s property. Am therefore requesting for your advice and intervention’’ Mr. Rugaju said.
Responding to this issue, Chief Justice Zeija, condemned the practice of money lenders confiscating people’s property saying that it is against the law and that anyone involved risks facing court action.
‘’Am sending a strong warning to private money lenders against confiscating people’s property because it is illegal’’. CJ Zeija said.
He also warned against deliberately entering into agreements with money lenders by offering their property as collateral to secure loans in cases of misunderstanding, it becomes difficult for magistrates to resolve such disputes.
‘’ As district leaders you should start compiling lists of all money lenders so they can be easily traced in case of disputes and you should also start sensitizing the public about the dangers of such loan agreements’’. Cj Dr Zeija advised.
