The 22-year-old also calls for increased competitions for local boxers

Boxer Isaac Masembe believes more preparations are required if local sportsmen are to realize success at the international level going forward.
Masembe, who won silver at the 2019 All Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco sees positives in Uganda’s Olympic adventure.
“The boxing team’s performance at the Olympics wasn’t bad and they did their best but it wasn’t good enough. The boxers last competed in Dakar yet their opponents were competing,” Masembe says.

“The Algerian who beat Semujju was in six competitions before so if we need more medals we must prepare more,” states Masembe.
The 22-year-old also calls for increased competitions for local boxers.
“I competed in the Olympic qualifiers in February 2020 in Dakar and that was the last competition I took part in yet Kenyans competed in the Zone 3 in Congo. The people I’m competing with are already getting more exposure and experience,” he adds.
“The federation should also offer a monthly salary for me, Ssemujju and Baleke who got medals at All African games.”
