Eight new districts get motorcycles and printers

The Minister of State for Disability Affairs at the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hellen Asamo, has handed over motorcycles and printers to Chief Administrative Officers from eight new district local governments.

The motorcycle and printers are intended to support the implementation of the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP). 

The recipient districts included; Kasanda, Pakwach, Kazo, Rwampara, Kitagwenda, Madi-Okollo, Karenga and Kalaki.  

The function took place at the ministry of gender offices in Kampala.

This brought to 176 the number of districts and municipalities that have received motorcycles, desktop computers and printers to aid in the implementation of UWEP.

UWEP is the flagship government-funded programme extending interest-free credit to women for entrepreneurship.

By the close of last the financial year, the programme had provided interest-free credit amounting to sh96.1 b to 15,294 women projects across the country. 

The total number of direct beneficiaries stood at 180,914 women and the number keeps growing every quarter of the year.
