The local leadership of Vurra sub-county in Arua district and the security team have recovered over sh29m Emyooga funds disbursed for performing artistes in Arua district.
The leaders said at the beginning of this month, Godfrey Azabo, the secretary for the performing artistes Emyooga group, vanished with sh29,141,00 after convincing the treasurer, Isaac Anguyo, to let him keep the money just before the cash was given to the group members.

However, with the help of Azabo’s family, a piece of land was sold to recover the money.
The money was on Friday, 23 July deposited at Vurra sub-county Police post, from where it was collected by the commercial officer and resident district commissioner.
John Ezuma, the district commercial officer of Arua, said the money will be deposited in the account of the performing artistes group, pending additional conditions for management of the Emyooga group.
Ezuma said the group members will not be able to access the money until they fulfil the additional conditions set for them, including electing new leadership, writing a resolution endorsed by the commercial officer and commissioner for micro-finance.
Arua Resident District Commissioner Festus Ayikobua cautioned Emyooga groups against misusing the funds.
He said when they discovered that Azabo had disappeared with the money, they swiftly intervened and put the family of the culprit to task to produce the money on behalf of their son.
