MBARARA– The Archdiocese of Mbarara has announced the postponement of the priest and diaconate ordination.
According to a statement from the Archbishop’s office signed by the Diocesan Chancellor Rev Fr Bonaventure Turyomumazima, the Archbishop asked him to communicate to Christians that due to the current threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, the ordinations have been differed to a date that will be communicated in the due course.
The priest and diaconate ordination was originally scheduled for Saturday 17th July at Our lady of perpetual help Nyamitanga Cathedral.

When the events are rescheduled, seven seminarians will be ordained to the priesthood and eventually assigned to parishes in the Archdiocese of Mbarara.
Eleven seminarians will be ordained to the transitional diaconate on their way to being ordained as priests.

Fr. Charles Mutabaruka, the communications officer Mbarara Archdiocese says given the current restrictions on large public gatherings and the lockdown on churches, the ordinations were bond to indefinite postponed until churches are open and public ceremonies are allowed then they shall once again expect the re-scheduled.
Dinavence Kyogabirwe a Christian says the changes will affect the preparations of the seminarians but that will be accepted because it is what is happening across the world.
Last year the ordination of the Archbishop was scientific with few Christians in attendance since the country was going through the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
