BUDUDA DISTRICT – Motorists in Bududa district have complained over the varying fines levied on them by police officers for flouting the COVID-19 guidelines.

While announcing the 42 days nationwide lockdown, president, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni banned both public and private transport and those who violate the guidelines will pay fines, which he didn’t stipulate.

Now, motorists in Bududa district say that police have taken advantage of the presidential directives to charge them exorbitant and discriminative fines.

Juma Kuya, the chairperson of Bududa Boda boda Association says also received several complaints from the rider and asked police to stop mistreating his men, adding that they are misinterpreting the presidential directives.

Gerald Mugisha, the officer in charge of Bududa central police station told Kazo FM that they have not received the proposed fines from the ministry of finance, but are using those provided for in the traffic rules and regulations. He explains that the fines vary because of the offence committed by the motorists.

George William Wopuwa, the Bududa Resident District Commissioner who doubles as the District COVID-19 task force chairperson promises to handle such an issue as soon as it is reported to his office by their leaders.
