Rukungiri -The People’s Front for freedom (PPF) Party youth members in Rukungiri district have launched a “Grant Dr Besigye Bail” protest campaign aiming at pushing the government and judiciary to grant Dr Kizza Besigye (their son) bail.
The Grant Dr Besigye Bail protest campaign was launched at the PPF party offices located along Rubabo Road in Rukungiri town, Rukungiri municipality.
After the launching ceremony, the Angry PPF Party members moved around the streets of Rukungiri town carrying poster cards containing messages asking the government to Grant Dr Besigye and other political prisoners bail.
The Angry PPF party members were also dressed in Black T- Shirts with an image of Dr Besigye in the face with the same message.
Addressing press after the walk, Ms Ingrid Kamateneti Turinawe, the people’s Front for freedom mobilizer said they have waited for what is enough and this is the right time for the government to release Dr Besigye and other political prisoners.
“This is a nationwide protest campaign and it has been launched here in Rukungiri district. We are saying there is no more demand, it’s a must, Dr Besigye must be free“. Ms Kamateneti.
Ms Kamateneti added “We are saying on 6th. August 2025 Dr Besigye and all other political prisoners must be free because everyone has confirmed our son committed no crime but what is hearting is that he has been in jail for almost 9 months for no crime so we are saying “enough is enough”.
Mr Kamsiime Boaz, Youth council and a member of people’s Front for freedom said ‘’ This is a demand campaign for free Dr Besigye and the government should grant him Bail because its almost 9 months in prison since he was abducted in Kenya and we are here as PPF youth from Rukungiri district demanding his release”
Mr Kamsiime used the same platform and called on fellow youth to join the campaign for freeing Dr Kizza Besigye.
“ Am calling upon my fellow youth who would wish to see freedom in Uganda to kindly join us and we roll out this campaign across the country because we badly want our son Dr Besigye out of prison’’ Mr Kamsiime said.
Ms Promise Arinda , another PPF member in Rukungiri district said this campaign is aiming at pressuring the government to release our dear president Dr Kizza Besigye because he has suffered for what is enough for no good reason”
Ms Promise now wants fellow youth to join the campaign and fight for the freedom of Dr Besigye and other political prisoners.
“Rukungiri we should be the start because Dr Besigye is our son. So we have to put in a lot of effort such that other districts can copy us if Dr Besigye is to be granted Bail” Ms Promise said.
Mr Stephen Mugisha, also a youth and a member of PPF said ‘’ the whole of Rukungiri is living in a painful situation because their son Dr Besigye is rotting in jail for no crime and it is from this background that we have launched this campaign’’.
Dr Besigye and his Friend Obeid Lutale were abducted in Nairobi Kenya on 16th.November 2024 where they had gone to attend a book launch for Martha Karua since then the 4 time presidential candidate Dr Besigye has been in Jail on charges of treason.
