Rukungiri -Bishop’s Kasheeshe primary school in Buyanja sub- County in Rukungiri district is in a sorry state. Parents of the school, say the government has never constructed even a single classroom block at the school that was founded by Church of Uganda in 1976.

The school that has 850 pupils operates in 7 dilapidated semi-permanent classroom blocks that were built by parents with the help of foundation body. The classroom blocks are all full of cracks and leak whenever it rains.

Innocent Twinomastsiko, Jolly Nuwagaba, Allan Kyomukama and Bernard Kashobera,  all parents at Bishop’s Kasheeshe primary school, says apart from constructing a toilet, the government has done nothing towards the development of their school.

The parents say what is more disappointing is that the government has developed the neighboring schools yet they also pay taxes.

Living Mwebabazi, a lay leader at Bishops Kasheeshe Primary School and member of the School Management Committee, says the foundation body and parents have played their role and what remains is for the government to do.

Mwebabazi asks the government to come in and support the education of young Ugandans.

Annet Musasizi, the school headteacher, says the available structures were built by the parents with the help of the foundation body and they are on the verge of falling anytime. Musasizi says that whenever it rains they are forced to send pupils to home in fear of their lives.

Naboth Namanya, the Rubabo County Member of Parliament, says plans are underway for developing the school are underway adding that she has already submitted the name of the school to the Education and Sports Ministry for consideration.

Jackson Turyahumura, the Rukungiri District Education Officer called for calm among parents and the foundation body, saying they are aware of their problems and that very soon the school will be supported since they have already included it on the budget.
