Dr. John Wakida, the Head of Private Medical Schools and Chairman of the National Medical Schools Quality Assurance Committee, has encouraged medical schools in the country to construct hospitals within their premises. This recommendation comes as a response to the increasing number of medical students who require access to medical facilities for their training, surpassing the capacity of existing hospitals.
Dr. Wakida made this suggestion while addressing an audience at St. Francis School of Health Sciences in Namataba, Mukono district, during the celebration of St. Francis Day. He emphasized the importance of providing adequate training facilities to produce high-quality medical professionals capable of effectively combating emerging diseases.
Kiwanuka Bbosa, the principal of St. Francis School Health Professionals Institute in Namataba, revealed that they are currently in the process of building a hospital on the school campus to address the challenges students face when seeking practical experience.
During the event, Rev. Fr. Father JC Sserwanda from Namagunga Parish also offered advice to students, urging them to stay focused on their studies and avoid distractions, such as inappropriate relationships. He praised the institute’s administration for their responsible financial management since the institute’s inception.
