The Uganda Police Force has explained the circumstances under which an 80-year-old man who was earlier arrested from Kasese and later found dead in detention at the Special Investigation Division Kireka.
This is after last week, the opposition Members of Parliament led by their leader Mathias Mpuuga put government on the spot over the death of the 80-year-old National Unity Platform -NUP supporter from Kasese that they attributed to torture.
About 2 days ago, the Leader of Opposition alleged that on 5th January 2023, Mzee Muhonja 76, while picking his cotton in Katholhu-Nyakiyumbu Sub County, he was reportedly picked up by plain clothed suspected security operatives, drove him to Bwera police station before destined to un known place.

“On 5th January 2023, regime operatives driving in the infamous ‘Drone’ van abducted 75-year-old Costa Muhonja from his garden in Katholhu, Nyakiyumbu Sub-County, Kasese District. He was driven to some detention facility in Kampala where he was tortured to death. We’ll address the media about this and more, tomorrow at 10am.” Mathias Mpuuga Said
The Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, while addressing the journalists on Tuesday at Naguru said that Consta Muhonja of Buhuna village, Karambi Sub County in Kasese district died after collapsing in a bathroom at Kireka SIU where he was being detained after arrest by operatives from Crime Intelligence Directorate -CID.
Fred Enanga added that the 80 year old was arrested after suspects earlier arrested over involvement in the attack of Busiika police station in Luweero told the interrogators that Muhonja was an agent of the Allied Defense Force in Kasese.
The Police Spokesperson however dismissed claims that the 80 year old was targeted because he was a supporter of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) but including one Moses Katende alias Mao informed police about Mugonja’s involvement in aiding the movement of ADF recruits and terrorists to enter and flee the country.
